Abstract
Treatment of waste water comprises first mechanically pre-cleaning (14), then routing to at least one man-made pond (16,18,20) with a free surface, where it is held for a predetermined period, and treating chemically and/or biologically and allowing to settle. Finally it is sterilised (22) and stored for further treatment or re-use. Apart from waste water received from the mains network, another stream is routed to the man-made ponds. This is a low volume stream, originating from tanker deliveries, pretreated mechanically (24) and by an anaerobic process (26,26',28,28').
