Abstract

2-substituted pregna-1,3,5(10)-triene and chola-1,3,5(10) triene derivatives (I) are new. Sterol derivatives of formula (I) are new. [Image] R1>H or an O-protecting group; R2>OH, lower alkoxy, carboxaldehyde, lower alk-1-enyl or lower alkyl substituted by OH or lower alkoxy; R3>Me in the alpha or beta configuration; X : a bond or 1-3 alkylene; Y : a carboxaldehyde group or C(R4>)(R5>)OR1>; R4>,R5>H, alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl with the proviso that the total C content or R4> and R5> does not exceed 3 atoms and the further proviso that X is a valence bond when both R4> and R5> are other than H; and the dotted line signifies an optional double bond. ACTIVITY : Cytostatic, antiproliferative, vulnerary, immunosuppressive, antiinflammatory, osteopathic, dermatological, hypotensive, antirheumatic, antiarthritic, antipsoriatic, antiasthmatic, nootropic, contraceptive, antilipemic, antiangiogenic, anticoagulant, antiseborrheic, neuroprotective; antifertility. MECHANISM OF ACTION : (I) are estrogen response modulators.
