A driving aggregate for cars has an IC engine and a gearbox working on the driving wheels of the car. A gearbox input shaft can be coupled to an output shaft of the engine and an electrical machine, which can be coupled via an intermediate gearbox with the main one, and which can be changed over between use as a starting motor for the engine and a generator to supply the car's electrical system. The output shaft (14) of the engine (12) and the gearbox input shaft (20) of the main gearbox as well as the electrical machine(32) can all be coupled together through the intermediate gearbox (34) with the help of a controllable clutch (28).
