Abstract

The personal hygiene product e.g. nappy, incontinence pad or sanitary towel, is applied to the human skin and consists of a first layer of fluid-permeable material (18) and a second layer of fluid-impermeable material together enveloping (20). It also has a third layer of fluid-absorbing material (32). Following its first exposure to and absorption of fluid, the fluid-absorbing material (32) remains capable of absorbing further fluid. The central area of the outer fluid-permeable material (1) is joined to the fluid-absorbing material (32). The central area contains one or more folded zones (26) devoid of absorptive material.
