Abstract

1,3-Dibromo-propane or 1-bromo-3-chloro-propane is reacted with a surplus amount of 1,2-ethylenediamine, then neutralized with alkali metal-hydroxide. The surplus 1,2-ethylene-diamine is separated. 1,3-Dibromopropane, or the 1-bromo-3-chloro-propane is reacted with 20-60 (preferably 40-50) mol, of 1,2-ethylene-diamine at 10-70 (preferably 30-50)[deg]C. The reacting chemicals are fed simultaneously and continuously into the reactor, the discharged reaction mixture the excess 1,2-ethylene-diamine is continuously distilled out. The products of the reaction are neutralized at 60-100[deg]C with an alkali metal-hydroxide, preferably sodium- or potassium-hydroxide. The residue of the distillation process is treated with a water-soluble alcohol, with a mass 1-2 times that of the residue. The N,N'-bis-(2-amino-ethyl)-1,3-propane-diamine thus formed and the alkali metal-bromide and/or chloride secondary product are separated out, and in some cases the desired product is cleaned by a known method.
