Abstract

A mouthwash/spray compsn. contains (all vol.%): 0.01-2.5 flavourings, 0.1-10.0 artificial sweetener, 0.5-10.0 preservative 20.0-40.0 deionised water 40-80 ethanol. Flavour components are dissolved in a vol. of ethanol representing 1/7 of the total compsn. vol. After dissolution the outstanding alcohol vol. is added under agitation. Preservative and sweetener are dissolved in the water portion of the compsn. The aq. soln. is added to the alcohol component. The mixt. is allowed to ''ripen'' in a sealed container for a month and any ppte. is filtered out prior to packaging.

Description

The present invention relates to oral care compositions, in particular in the form of mouthwash and mouth spray.

Oral and dental care products are widely available. Many oral and dental care products are also known in the patent literature.

Hungarian Patent No. 67,390 discloses a toothpaste containing the active ingredient peroxide and the usual components of pastes.

According to Hungarian Patent No. 69,498, neutral alkaline or ammonium salts of acids such as benzoic acid, salicylic acid, citric acid or malic acid, which are soluble in water, are used to prepare tartar-dissolving compositions.

Hungarian Patent No. 70,273 discloses a process for the preparation of a dentifrice. The mouthwash described herein contains maltase, diastase, menthol and marjoram oil in a 40% alcoholic solution.

In the process for the preparation of novel oral and dental care products according to Hungarian Patent No. 93,821, sulfuric fats and sulfuric fatty acids and their alkali or ammonium salts of these sulfuric compounds are used in any mixture with the appropriate materials.

Hungarian Patent Application No. A108651 discloses a process for the preparation of a foaming mouthwash.

Hungarian Patent Application No. 174,968 discloses a process and apparatus for the preparation of aerosolized products, particularly cosmetics, household and agricultural chemicals. The method involves fermentation in aerosol cans by inoculating at least one base composition containing at least one glycide as a culture medium with carbon dioxide producing yeast, and after stabilizing the carbon dioxide pressure, the base composition is neutralized by the addition of a base and the enzyme is added to the final product. The resulting aerosol formulations (lotion, shampoo, skin care emulsion) do not contain a chemical preservative.

The beneficial properties of various vegetable essential oils have long been used by the cosmetics industry. It is known that peppermint oil has, among other things, a disinfectant effect, an anise oil component of oral care products, clove oil has an antiseptic effect (see Domokos Oláh: Treatment with Essential Oil Plants, Budapest, 1990, 129, 167 and 184). Thyme oil is also known to have a disinfectant effect (see Herbal Encyclopedia, Esély Publisher, Budapest, 1991).

It is an object of the present invention to provide oral care compositions which, when used in specific proportions, provide additional efficacy, so that the range of oral care cosmetics can be usefully expanded with compositions which have hitherto unknown beneficial effects.

Thus, the present invention is based on the discovery that when a variety of vegetable oils, preferably herbal oils, are dissolved in a certain proportion in ethyl alcohol and mixed with an aqueous solution of commonly used preservatives and sweeteners, the resulting new formulation, in addition to the breath freshening effect of known oral care products. It also has enhanced antiseptic, anti-ferment, antiseptic and cooling effects.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to an oral care composition, preferably a mouthwash, a mouth spray comprising vegetable oils, a preservative, a sweetener in ethyl alcohol solution, including:

0.09-4.5 vol% peppermint oils,

0.005-0.75 vol% anise oil,

0.003-0.1% vol. Thyme oil,

0.002 to 1.0% v / v clove oil,

0.008-0.3% by volume of cinnamon oil, in addition

0.01-25% by volume of artificial sweetener,

0.1-10% by volume of preservative,

20-40 vol% deionized water and

Contains 40-80% by volume of ethyl alcohol.

In a preferred embodiment, the composition of the invention may contain saccharin sodium and glycerol as sweetening agents.

Preferably, the composition of the present invention contains sodium benzoate and sodium bicarbonate as a preservative.

As a herbal oil, it is preferable to use a mixture of peppermint oil, anise oil, thyme oil and clove oil, optionally supplemented with fenchone (fennel oil) and cinnamon oil.

The total amount of herbal oils in the composition is 0.01 to 6.0% by volume, preferably 0.4 to 4.0% by volume.

Herbal oils are flavoring agents, and their relative amounts in the composition may be varied within the above limits. Approaching the given upper limit, a mouthwash concentrate may be obtained which must be diluted with water when used.

The sweetener is used in a total amount of 0.01 to 25% by volume, preferably 10% by volume. The relative proportions thereof can also be varied, preferably glycerol is used in an amount of from 1 to 25% by volume, and saccharin sodium is used in an amount of 0.01 to 5.0% by volume.

Sodium benzoate and sodium bicarbonate may be used as a preservative in an amount of 0.1-10.0% w / v, preferably 0.2-0.4%, the latter having a neutralizing effect.

The solvent used is deionized water and 96% ethyl alcohol, preferably in an amount of 20-35% and 50-60% by volume, respectively.

Preferably, the compositions of the present invention are prepared by dissolving the vegetable oil components in one-seventh of the total amount of alcohol, and then, after dissolution, adding an additional amount of alcohol while stirring. The preservative and sweeteners are dissolved in a specified amount of deionized water with stirring, and the resulting solution is added with stirring to the previously prepared alcoholic solution. Any precipitate formed is removed by filtration.

Each study was performed on 15 subjects. Results are averaged. The subject was treated with a mouth spray, and after 15 minutes, the microbial count was measured relative to the control (untreated) saliva.

From the tables it can be seen that the composition according to the invention (denoted by G) exhibits a significant synergistic effect rather than a simple additive.

For mouthwash purposes, the composition is preferably formulated by filling it into plastic or glass vials having a piercing cap and suitable for dripping.

For oral spray application, the composition of the invention may be prepared in a metal bottle in the form of a pumped oral spray using air as the carrier gas.

The composition of the invention may also be formulated with toothpastes in admixture with conventional carriers and carriers.

Because of their herbal active ingredients, the compositions of the present invention have proven antiseptic, antiseptic, anti-ferment, anti-inflammatory and cooling effects as shown in the above two tables. Due to their therapeutic effects, they are widely used, for example, in the form of mouth spray for chronic pharyngeal and pharyngeal catarrh (able to normalize the pharyngeal mucosa and pharyngeal flora), in dry and dusty air (penetrating into the mouth and pharynx ), in the form of mouthwash for disinfection of the oral cavity and in case of damage to the oral cavity (increase the local defense of the mucous membrane), in the form of toothpaste to reduce the formation of tooth plaque. can also prevent it.
