Svjetlosni displeji pomoću kojih se vrši prikazivanje reklamnih ili drugih poruka s vidljivih površina displeja okrenutih motriteljima, osvijetljenih električnim ili drugim izvorima svjetla postavljenim iza vidljive površine displeja, sastoje se uglavnom od krutih kućišta i izvora svjetlosti. Izvedbe kućišta i električnih izvora svjetlosti moraju zadovoljavati propise o sigurnosti uporabe displeja. Zbog toga su kućišta najčešće načinjena od metala ili kombinacija metalnih konstrukcija, drveta i polimernih materijala a izvori svjetlosti su najčešće električni izvori. Posebna pozornost pri izradi ovih displeja mora biti posvećena električnim i toplinskim svojstvima materijala od kojih su displeji građeni.
