The field to which the invention relates

This invention relates to percussion instruments, more specifically to one of the percussion instruments, the hi-hat (counter cymbal-fuss) and the use of the pedal of the main hi-hat to open the second hi-hat.

Technical problem

Drummers who use a second hi-hat, which is more and more a trend among modern drummers, encounter the following problem: in order to open and close the second hi-hat, it must have its own pedal, which is located next to the pedal of the main hi-hat stand. When the drummer switches from one hi-hat to another while playing, he must also switch his foot from one pedal to the other.

State of the art

Some drummers use a second hi-hat and play it only with sticks without using a pedal, that is, the hi-hat is always closed. If they want to use a completely different hi-hat that has a separate pedal and drive cable, they have to switch their foot from one pedal to another, which can be confusing and limit performance.

Presentation of the essence of the invention

The primary goal of the invention is to simplify the playing of the drums and, by saving the drummers movements, enable greater speed and variety of playing. The essence of the invention is to use the pedal of the main hi-hat stand to open and close the cymbals on the second hi-hat.

In order to achieve this goal, i.e. to open and close the second hi-hat using the pedal of the first hi-hat, the main hi-hat connected to the second hi-hat according to the present invention comprises: the main hi-hat and the second hi-hat which is driven by a flexible cable, the second hi-hat being attached by clamps to a cymbal stand or other stand opposite the main hi-hat in the drum battery or as suits the drummer; a flexible cable used to transmit and connect the pedal of the main hi-hat and the cymbal pickup of the second hi-hat; said flexible cable has a ring-shaped connector at one end that is fixed to the lever up to the stop and secured with a butterfly nut so that it cannot fall; the lever is attached to the pedal of the main hi-hat by means of a screw used to secure the chain or a flexible strap connected to the lifter rod of the upper cymbal of the main hi-hat; the sheathing of the flexible cable has a support placed on a two-part clamp by means of a screw; a two-part clip is fixed on the lower part of the hollow tube of the main hi-hat stand; at the other end of the flexible cable is a hollow tube with the lower cymbal of the second hi-hat; the other end of that pipe is the support of the cable; on the lower part of the tube there is a gap in which the hi-hat hardness adjuster slides; inside the tube there is a spring that returns the cable to its initial position.

There is the possibility of connecting a third hi-hat, which we fasten using a connector to the main hi-hat stand and which is activated by the pedal of the main hi-hat in the same way as the second hi-hat, only in this case we fasten the cable of the third hi-hat to the support which in that case has two cases.

In order for the pedal of the main hi-hat not to change the hardness, i.e. to always be activated with the same force, in all three hi-hats, between the upper and lower cymbals there is a spring with a hollow screw and nut. There is an additional possibility to reduce the power required to press the pedal: instead of the aforementioned lever, we place a pulley support between the pedal and the cymbal lifter of the main hi-hat.

A detailed description of at least one way of realizing the invention

One way of realizing the invention is described, an example of which is illustrated in the attached drawings. The main hi-hat instrument 1 shown in figure 1 consists of a hi-hat stand and a pair of cymbals 18a and 19a placed on the upper part of the stand. The second hi-hat 2 is fixed with connectors 4 to the cymbal stand 21. The flexible cable 3 used for transmission connects the foot pedal 9 of the main hi-hat 1 to the cymbal pickup 20 of the second hi-hat 2.

At the end of the flexible cable 3 there is a connector in the form of a ring 5, which is fixed on the lever 6 up to the stop 7. The nut 8 secures the connector 5.

The lever 6 is attached to the pedal 9 of the main hi-hat with the help of a screw 9a, which is normally used to fix the chain or belt 10 that is connected to the lifter of the upper cymbal of the main hi-hat. One end of the lever is flattened and has a hole. That end is placed under the screw 9a which normally attaches the chain or belt as shown in Fig. 4

The other end of the lever 6 has a stopper 7 and a screw at the end. The cover 11 of the flexible cable 3 has a support 12 on a two-part clip 13 fixed with a screw 14, as shown in Fig. 3 the two-part clip 13 is fixed to the lower part of the hollow tube of the main hi-hat. The other end of the lining 11 has a support 15 on the hollow tube that carries the lower cymbal of the second hi-hat. The lower part of the tube, next to 15, has a slot 16 in which the hi-hat hardness adjuster 16a slides.

Inside the tube is a spring 17 that returns the cable to its initial position, as shown in Fig. si. 6. Fig. 3 shows how we can apply this invention to connect another hi-hat, so that we have three hi-hats in the set. The third hi-hat 2a is connected to the pedal of the main hi-hat in the same way as the second hi-hat, but in this case the cable of the third hi-hat has a support with two housings 12. In order to easily press the pedal and to make the upper cymbals return quickly regardless of how many hi-hats are on or off, between the upper and lower cymbals we put a hollow screw 24 with a nut 23 and a spring 22 as shown in Fig. 5. The nut 23 is used to adjust the hardness of the spring, which depends on the size of the cymbals we use

So that we need as little force as possible to press the pedal of the main hi-hat when two more hi-hats are connected to the main hi-hat, we can place the pulley support 31 under the nut 29 on the upper cymbal lifter rod 20a. We attach the flexible cable of the second and third hi-hats 3 and 3a to the pulley support 31. One end of the flexible tape or chain 30 that goes over two pulleys, and is connected to the pedal of the main hi-hat 9. The second pulley 31a is connected to the lower part of the frame of the hi-hat stand 32, as shown in Fig. 7.

Method of application of the invention

This invention makes it possible to improve the technique and variety of percussion playing very easily and cheaply. By pressing one pedal, the drummer closes or opens the main and second hi-hats at the same time, or only the first or only the second, as desired.

It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that numerous modifications and changes could be made and that the invention in its broadest sense is not limited to the specific details described herein. Various modifications can be made without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention.

Claims (6)

1. A hi-hat instrument consisting of two interconnected hi-hats characterized by the fact that they are both driven by the same pedal, the main hi-hat via the cymbal lifter and the second hi-hat via a flexible cable, with the lever fixed on the pedal of the said main hi-hat with the help of a screw that normally fastens the chain or belt that connects the upper cymbal lifter of the main hi-hat, and the flexible cable is connected to the specified lever with a ring coupling and secured with a nut, the support of the lining of the flexible cable is located on a two-part clamp that is connected to the hollow tube of the main hi-hat; where in the hollow tubes of the main and second hi-hats, there is a spring that returns the cymbal lifters to their initial position; and where between the cymbals there is a bolt with a nut and a spring that raises the upper cymbals in the main and second hi-hats. 2. Hi-hat instrument according to claim 1 characterized by the fact that another, third, hi-hat is connected to it, which is also driven by the pedal of the main hi-hat. 3. Hi-hat instrument according to claim 1 characterized by the fact that the lever is moved and instead of being connected to the pedal of the main hi-hat, it is connected to the cymbal lifter of the main hi-hat at the point where it connects to the chain or belt. 4. Hi-hat instrument according to claim 1 characterized by the fact that said lever is replaced by a pair of pulleys located between the pedal and the cymbal lifter of the main hi-hat. 5. Hi-hat instrument according to claim 1 in combination with claim 3 characterized in that said lever is attached to the pulley support which is placed on the lower part of the cymbal riser of the main hi-hat. 6. Hi-hat instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that both the main and second hi-hats are driven by a flexible cable, but by means of one pedal.
