Abstract

The method involves supporting portability of a mobile subscriber telephone number at an exchange of a mobile subscriber from a current mobile communication system (D1) which releases the registered subscriber, to a new mobile communications system (D2) which receives the mobile subscriber. The current phone number (MSISDN) used for initiating a call connection to the mobile subscriber is received by a exchange arrangement (MSC/GMSC) of the current communication system, and used at least for a query of a database (VLR), by which routing information is demanded for the call connection. At reception of a control information from the database, the exchange initiates a branching to a service control unit (CSE) of an intelligent network in lieu of the routing information, which is transmitted along which the current telephone number. The service control unit replaces the current telephone number with a new phone number (MSISDN') which is usable in the new communication system, and returns it to the exchange which sets up the call connection in the new communication system, using the new number.
