Abstract

If text service information items and user guidance information items are simultaneously shown on the screen in the currently used television receivers which have a ratio of picture width to picture height of 4:3, some of the text service information items actually to be displayed must be masked out. In the novel device, this masking out should not be necessary. Essentially, this is achieved by the fact that the text service information items are displayed in 4:3 format on a wide format television screen which has a ratio of picture width to picture height which is greater than 4:3, and the read-out process of the information items, stored in a memory, which are to be displayed overall on the wide-picture television screen is controlled in such a manner that the user guidance information items and the text service information items are present in time-division multiplex within the television lines. <IMAGE>
