Abstract
Neutralisation residues of seed oils (soap pastes) are broken down using sulphuric acid in a specially designed Soap-paste Breakdown Tank For production of olein, which is a mixture of fatty substances. Olein is subsequently burned in a modified boiler furnace for heat production, replacing the crude oil or other fuel used in the factory. For processing of the soap paste, a Soap paste Breakdown Tank is constructed, comprising a container lined with lead or other acid resistant material and high temperature resistant (e.g. special polyester resins). The soap pastes and sulphuric acid mix and the produced olein is channelled by double bottom pipes into a tank and from there to the factory's boiler. The boiler if fitted with an olein circuit with filters, a stainless steel electromagnetic valve, and pre-heater, totally independent of the crude oil circuit, allowing the boiler to use both crude oil and olein. By processing soap paste and using olein as fuel, we are utilising a by-product (soap pastes), useless until now and converting it into fuel with considerable economic benefits for the factory, resulting from partial replacement of crude oil by olein.
