Abstract
The invention concerns standard designs of chess piece figures, depicting representations from ancient Greek mythology and Greek history, or satirical figures of animals and zodiac signs appropriately designed in their entirety for their use as an army for playing the game of chess. The same figures can be used as independent decorative statuettes and key rings. For the design of the invented figures mythological, historical, satirical, animal and zodiac sign representations were chosen and produced as a set so as to be used as chess pieces during the game for example, in place of the castle, the horseman, the bishop, the queen, the king and the pawn. Current technology for the construction of chess pieces uses various representations for the pieces. However, these specific chess pieces (figures) that are presented here have never before been designed. The designed figures (animal and zodiac sign chess pieces) are composed of the characteristic physical appearance of each figure with or without a base of various shapes. The construction of the figures in question (animal and zodiac sign chess pieces) is achieved by using molten metal poured into moulds. The moulds are constructed from a prototype that has been made through art sculpture work, after having first been drawn in their chosen format. The dimensions of the figures in question (animal and zodiac chess pieces) are between 2 to 20 centimetres in height and proportionate in width. The design of the invented and designed figures, which is to be submitted, is not an exact and accurate representation, but indicative, portraying the basic lines and form of each figure. Their accurate representation can be shown in photographs and through the display of the exact copy of the prototype.
