ΣΥΣΤΗΜΑ ΑΝΤΙΠΥΡΙΚΗΣ ΠΡΟΣΤΑΣΙΑΣ ΚΑΙ ΠΥΡΟΣΒΕΣΗΣ ΔΑΣΩΝ, ΟΙΚΙΣΜΩΝ, FIRE PROTECTION AND FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM FOR FORESTS, SETTLEMENTS,
ΜΕΜΟΝΩΜΕΝΩΝ ΟΙΚΙΩΝ ΚΑΙ ΒΙΟΜΗΧΑΝΙΚΩΝ ΚΤΙΡΙΩΝ OF INDIVIDUAL HOUSES AND INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS
The invention refers to an autonomous fire protection and fire extinguishing system which is used to protect and extinguish fires in forests, in rural areas, in settlements, in individual homes and industrial buildings. The system can also be used as an irrigation system.
The system consists of long pipes, which are placed in suitable layouts according to the requirements of the area to be protected. Pillars are attached to the pipes, which carry water jets and taps (valves) to select the protection and extinguishing area. The piping is fed by two or more large capacity water and retarder tanks, which are connected to the appropriate pumping assembly. The applied pressure in the system ranges from 20-50 BAR. The valves are electronic and can be controlled manually or by remote control. The forest firefighting method applied to date relies on firefighting aircraft, helicopters, vehicles, fire protection zones and human resources, where in most cases they prove to be insufficient. Likewise for rural areas, settlements, houses and industrial buildings etc.
The large extent of fires, inaccessible areas, strong winds and drought, as well as the fact that after the sun goes down the fire suppression efforts are some of the reasons that make all these systems fail in their purpose. If we examine in detail each existing system we find that it presents disadvantages that make it unsuccessful.
Firefighting aircraft and helicopters contribute decisively to the extinguishing, since they throw significant amounts of water into the fires. However, their accuracy is questionable due to the speed and style they move. In addition, there is a difficulty of resupply, they are expensive, they need trained personnel, their use is impossible if there are strong winds and they are limited only during the day to unpopulated areas and they are not combined simultaneously with ground means.
In 90% of the fires where firefighting aircraft participate, a mixture of sea water with some retarding materials is used as extinguishing material. The salt contained in the seawater combined with the retardants have long-lasting effects on the vegetation that will grow after the fire. The fire truck practical method of extinguishing fires has the disadvantage of a short radius of action. Also, this method has a disadvantage in that fire brigades are unable to intervene in inaccessible areas. For these reasons, their action is limited to fire suppression and the protection of residential and rural areas.
Η δημιουργία αντιπυρικών ζωνών προστασίας, που γίνεται με την υλοτόμηση δέντρων, εκχερσώσεις και εκσκαφές σε ικανό πλάτος ώστε να σταματήσουν τη φωτιά στο σημείο των The creation of fire protection zones, which is done by felling trees, earthworks and excavations of sufficient width to stop the fire at the point of

Επιπλέον, υπάρχει η δυνατότητα προσθήκης υγρών πυροσβεστικών υλικών. zones, apart from being a costly process, is also ineffective in cases of strong wind. Extinguishing by individual efforts of the residents of the areas in front of the fire is dangerous because of the suffocating atmosphere and the radiant heat from the fire. There is always the risk of entrapment and their supply is infinitesimal in the effort to suppress the fire front. In the present invention, water (not seawater) is used as extinguishing material, which is the oldest, but at the same time effective, if used properly. Its extinguishing capacity is based on the property it has to absorb significant amounts of heat and indeed from the hearth of the fire or from the incandescent surfaces of the materials. In addition, there is the possibility of adding liquid fire extinguishing materials.
It is an ideal solution for the protection of remote settlements, camps, camping sites, camps, factories, etc., because it provides the possibility of quickly creating fireproof zones.
The operating costs are significantly lower than in any other case, while the effectiveness of the system is considered certain.
Our invention presents an autonomous and integrated hydraulic system for fire protection and fire extinguishing of forests, rural areas, settlements, individual houses and industrial buildings, which aims to deal with fires more effectively. It is a permanent fire protection and fire extinguishing system, while it is not affected by difficult areas, drought and strong winds, but its action is not limited only during the day, it does not need qualified personnel, it can be activated manually or remotely and via mobile phone device regardless of distance. It is also particularly low-cost compared to the cost of creating fire zones in forests and environmentally friendly as it does not require the cutting of trees and creates a safety zone 100-120 meters wide compared to only 10 meters of the fire zone.
The system consists of long steel pipes, resistant to high temperatures, placed in suitable arrangements in the ground. Pillars are attached to it, which are based on the ground and carry water jets. These pillars have, as the case may be, a height greater than the height of the trees being protected.
There is the possibility of choosing the extinguishing area with electrovalves located on the pillars, while the launchers have a large radius of action and thus the extinguishing takes place over a larger area.
They are supplied by 2 or more large capacity water tanks, which are connected to the appropriate pumping unit. The water tanks are supplied either by tankers or by pumping water from a natural source (borehole, lakes, rivers), if the specific location allows it. It is possible to support the system by creating artificial reservoirs from where pumping takes place directly. In the case of houses, swimming pools can replace the tank.

The invention, achieving the removal of the aforementioned disadvantages, presents the following advantages.
It can cover easily, safely and in a minimum of time, a fire front length of up to 2000 meters, in the countryside. Placing every 100 meters a fire hydrant which covers 10-12 acres each in a 2000 meter long arrangement the 20 hydrants cover an area of 200-240 acres. Depending on the needs of the area, the tanks of our system are from 100 cubic meters to 5000 cubic meters. Each pillar ejects about 30 cubic meters of water per hour. Well, the 20 eject about 600 cubic meters per hour. With a 5000 cubic meter tank we can have approximately, continuous water jetting for 10 consecutive hours.
It is possible to approach and develop the system in hard-to-reach areas where the access of conventional forest firefighting means is impossible. The extinguishing operation is safe, without any risk of trapping people, since it does not require a person to approach the area of the fire front.
The system works even in the most adverse weather conditions. The extinguishing action is continuous even at night. The system can operate while at the same time reinforcing the entire extinguishing effort with firefighting aircraft in the same area, without the risk of injury to people from water jets.
The "Fire Protection and Fire Extinguishing" system described above is illustrated in drawings 1 to 6. The brief description thereof constitutes an embodiment of the invention in the form of an example, without being a limitation thereof.
Figure 1 shows an arrangement of the system suitable for creating a fire zone in a forest. We place the pillars every 100 meters distance and at the highest point an open feed tank and pump assembly is placed. The open tank offers the possibility of feeding a helicopter and a fire engine.
Figure 2 shows a layout of the system suitable for the protection of a settlement which is protected by 6 pillars which cover approximately 60 acres of settlement and forest. This arrangement is suitable for firefighting but also for creating a fire zone in settlements. The layout in this example is circular. It provides the possibility of complete fire extinguishing in forest and settlement. This arrangement can form the main body of a hydraulic fire extinguishing system, where to protect a larger area, pillars with similar tanks and pumping stations are added in parallel or in series depending on the requirements of the protected area.
Figures 3 and 4 show an arrangement of the system suitable for the protection of an individual residence. The pillar is placed either on the ground or on top of the house. Figure 5 shows an arrangement of the system suitable for the protection of houses in an arrangement.
Στο σχήμα 6 απεικονίζεται ένας φορητός πυλώνας ο οποίος μεταφέρεται τροχήλατα από όχημα με δυνατότητα τροφοδοσίας από οποιαδήποτε διαθέσιμη πηγή ύδατος (λίμνη, πισίνα, Figure 6 shows a portable pillar which is transported on wheels by a vehicle with the possibility of feeding from any available water source (lake, swimming pool,
EYDAP, water carrier). The system consists of a water tank, a retarder tank, a pump system and a fire hydrant array.
The supply of the peripheral piping is done through central pipes which are connected to the pumping unit, ensuring a separate water supply to each pillar. The design of this arrangement combined with the use of electric valves on the pillars ensures the possibility of choosing the extinguishing area according to the front of the fire. In high-risk locations, where for example strong winds prevail, the system can be strengthened by placing more rows of the hydraulic system, thus creating a stronger fire zone (picture 1).
