Abstract

The invented pear-shaped baritone bouzouki is an original musical string instrument of the bouzouki family. It has its own original sound box dimensions (L1, L2, L3J), lid-cover (L1, L2, L4), fretboard (L9) etc. It is a handmade pear-shaped bouzouki made entirely of durable wood. It has the ability to interpret musical text, to play in parallel with any other instrument and to rhythmically accompany by playing chords; it is played with a plastic pick just like the other members of the bouzouki family. Compared to other bouzoukis, its sound is different by producing low notes.

BARITONE bouzouki

DESCRIPTION

The present invention for which I am requesting protection and registration, concerns an original musical stringed instrument, of my own inspiration and construction, which I call a BARITE BUZOUKI, (drawing 1, A, B, front and back view) and belongs to the bouzouki family.

In the four-string bouzouki, known to all Greeks, its lowest bass note is NTO. So if the melody, of a random musical text (song), descends lower than this, then the musician is forced to change the flow of the text and go up a higher octave in order to find the requested note. This way, however, the sound and interpretive result is altered, (damaged). So I needed to find a solution, so I thought of making a new musical instrument that would give me even lower notes than those of the four-string bouzouki. To achieve this, I built the Baritone bouzouki as I call it, in the shape of a halved pear, using the same durable woods that are used to make the other handmade musical instruments in the "family". This instrument is related to the bouzouki, but it also has many differences. It has, for example, a larger vessel and cap, a shorter arm, fewer frets, a smaller fingerboard, completely different strings than those of the four-string bouzouki, etc. However, you play this one with a plastic nib like the rest of the bouzouki. More detail:

The vessel of the Baryton bouzouki (drawing 2) has dimensions, length (L1)=48.50 cm), width (L2)=37 cm), depth (L3)=1 8 cm) at its deepest point. With this boat we achieve a more voluminous sound with a powerful performance in the lower notes. (The dimensions of the bouzouki board are usually:

L1 = 37.50cm, L2 = 30cm, L3 = 16cm)

The lid of the baritone vessel (design 3), has dimensions: (L1), (L2) and thickness (L4)=0.3 cm). (Accordingly, the bouzouki has: L1, L2 and L4 = 0.3cm).

In the lid of the baritone there is an oval hole [hole], dimensions [L5)= 9 cm by (L6) =11 cm, design 4, E.

[The corresponding hole in the bouzouki is L5 =7cm L6=12cm and they are not oval].

This hole is used for the output of the sound and is from one end of the vessel (L7)=24.2 cm] and from the other (L8)=15.3 cm. [On the bouzouki is L7 = 21.5cm and L8 = 8.5cm ]. The position and size of the hole provide the desired sound. Also contained in the lid are: the binding attachment (C) which you use for tying the strings and which I call the 'Destra' and the large movable 'Kavalar', which I mark on my drawing as (D);

The arm [drawing 5], has a length [ L9)=52.5 cm] and the total length of the instrument is [ 1 10)=101cm]. On the arm is the fingerboard, which starts from the keyhole and reaches the hole. It contains 24 (St) frets [ xpartitions ) and its length is (L 11 )=53.5 cm). (In the bouzouki respectively we have: L9 = 62cm and L 10 = 100cm. Fret 27 and L 11 = 54cm).

(Figure 6) . In this design, at the beginning of the fingerboard is the small and stable "Kavalaris" (H). And at the end of the arm, you integrate the second string attachment point (Z), which I call "Tip and Key". The strings are tied and tuned in it because it contains the keys (tuners). The strings I use (diagram 6) are eight, arranged in four pairs.

(G1). Two trebles which I tune to the LA note of the diapason.

(G2). Two trebles which I tune to the note MI.

(Z3 ).A teli and a thick string (burgana). I tune these to the note D with an octave difference between them.

(G4). A treble and a thick string too, with a difference between them of an octave again, which give me the note SOL.

This original arrangement of the strings, (diagram 6) gives starting from the fourth pair the lowest note of the instrument (SOL) (below the stave), to the highest which is the note (LA) (above the stave) and is on the first pair of strings at the end of the fingerboard, three octaves plus a tone. (Figure 8). It is written in the musical key FA. (IA)

The sequence of placement of the chords. [Diagram 9) (LA-MIN-DO-GOL), gives the following musical intervals:

(IB) , LA - MI = interval 5<th>, MI- DO = interval 3<ith>, DO - SOL = interval 5<ith>. If I observe the arrangement of the strings in the opposite way, i.e. in the order SOL-DO-MILLA- then I have the intervals

(IG) , SOL-DTO = interval 4<th>, DO- MI = interval 3<th>, MI-LA = interval 4<th>

The Baritone Bouzouki, due to its larger vessel and thicker strings, offers a much fuller sound than that of the bouzouki. Can interpret a musical text (song) by himself. To cooperate, playing in parallel, but in a lower octave, with the bouzouki and rhythmically accompany by playing chords (accords), any other strictly soloist musical instrument such as the violin, clarinet, bouzouki, etc. It finally adds an extra member to the bouzouki family, completing the . DESIGNS

Drawing 1 shows the Barytonon bouzouki in an upright position, on both sides. A = front, B = back.

Drawing 2 shows the Baryton boat with the dimensions (L1,48.50 cm = length, (L2) 37cm = width and (L3) 18cm = depth), exactly as shown in the description.

Drawing 3 shows the lid of the vessel in which the (length L1, width L2 and material thickness L4=0.3cm) are depicted. Drawing 4 shows: the lid of the vessel, the hole (E) for sound output in an oval shape, with dimensions of the hole (L5=9cm and L6=11cm), the distances (L7=24.2cm and L8=15.3cm ) OL which delimit the exact position of the hole on the lid,

the Destra (C) of the strings and the great Horseman (R).

Drawing 5 shows the entire front view of the Baritone Bouzouki in sideways position, arm length (L9=52.5cm), overall instrument length (L 10=101cm), fingerboard length (L 11=53.5cm ) and the total of the frets of the fingerboard (Τ) which is (24).

Drawing 6 shows the (Z) of the strings, which is also the clef, its position (small horseman H) and the position of the strings in pairs on it in the order (Z1=DA, Z2=MI, Z3=NDO, Z4=S0L).

Drawing 7 with line (I) shows us the "family" of the bouzouki as it is formed after the addition of the Baritone and with line (Θ) the previous "family". It also shows us their "degree of affinity" based on their weaponry, size and sound. Starting from the left we have: 7a), Barytonon = grandfather, 7b), 4-string bouzouki = father, 7c), 3-string bouzouki = son, 7 d), Misobouzouko = younger son, 7e), Tzouras = cousin and 7 f), Baglamas = grandson . Note: The strings of the stringed instruments are the strings they wear, and which of course is different for each one. Diagram 8 shows the (key FA = IA) in which the Baritone Bouzouki is written on the staff, the extent of its range, which starts from the note (SOA ) below the staff and ends at the note (LA ) above the staff , giving us ( three octaves plus one tone). (Octave = the sound distance from any note to another note similar to it. E.g. SOL to SOL , C to C).

Diagram 9 shows the musical intervals given by the arrangement of the chords (LA, MI, D, G), straight and inverted.

Claims (6)

1. BARITE BOUZOUKI, design 1, is an original stringed musical instrument, of my own inspiration and construction, for which I request its protection and registration. It is also characterized by having: A larger vessel than that of the four-string bouzouki with original dimensions of its own. (L1=48.5cm length, L2=37cm width, L3=18cm depth, design 2). Larger cap with dimensions (L1, L2 and L4=0.3cm thickness, design 3). In the lid there is an oval hole (E) with dimensions (L5=9cm by L6=11cm), and it is far from one end of the vessel (L7=24.2cm and from the other 18=15.3cm, drawing 4). The particular larger vessel, the lid, the position and the size of the hole give a sound stronger and more voluminous than the other musical instruments of the bouzouki family. It has a shorter arm (L9=52.5cm), a longer overall length of the instrument (L 10= 101cm), a long fingerboard (L11=53.5cm) and a 24 fret (picture 5). Four pairs of strings that I originally tune in (Z1=LA, Z2=M1, Z3=D, Z4=S0L, pattern 6) Its range, which is written in the key of (FA), starts from the note (SOL) below the stave, goes up three octaves, i.e. four (SOL) and reaches the note (LA) above the stave. (Figure 8) . He can lead an orchestra as a soloist, perform random musical text alongside the bouzouki, accompany another solo instrument by playing chords and rhythm, and accompany himself by playing sasso and rhythm. It grows and completes the bouzouki family by adding one more member to it (figure 7). 2. Barytonon Bouzouki according to claim 1 and 2. characterized by the fact that: The specific vessel, the lid, the position and the size of the hole give a stronger and more voluminous sound than the other musical instruments of the bouzouki family. 4. Baritone Bouzouki, according to claim 1. characterized by: It has a shorter arm (L9=52.5cm), longer overall length of the instrument (L 10=101cm), fingerboard length (L11=53.5cm) and fret 24 (design 5). 5. Baritone Bouzouki, according to claim 1. characterized in that: It has four pairs of strings which are originally tuned in (Z1=LA, Z2=MI, Z3=NTO, Z4=S0L), (drawing 6). And its range, (sonic range of the instrument) which is written in its key (FA), starts from the note (SOL) below the stave, goes up three octaves, i.e. four in total (SOL) and reaches the note (LA) above the stave. (Figure 8) . 6. Baritone Bouzouki, according to claim 1. which is characterized by: Can lead an orchestra as a soloist, perform random musical text alongside the bouzouki, accompany another solo instrument by playing chords and rhythm, and self-accompaniment while simultaneously playing chaos and rhythm. It grows and completes the family of bouzoukis by adding one more member to it, a total of six (figure 7).
