Abstract
Novelty: a pitch-controlling mechanism practicable for sail motors is disclosed. Purpose: to ensure the safe operation of sail motors in any weather conditions and with least maintenance. Constitution: a control element 5 which is common to all the sails of the sail motor, which control element is connected to every sail 1 via one or more flexible backstays 3 and pulleys 4 for controlling the operation of the sail motor. The mechanism meant for the pathetic control of the sail motor’s pitch is regulated via the resilient element 5 allowing the simultaneous gradual increase of the pitch of all sails in case that the wind overpasses a predefined value. From calm conditions to predefined value, the sails rotate in a stable pitch in respect to the regulation effected by the aforementioned control element 5; in the occurrence of wind over speeding and under the influence of the wind pressure exerted on the sails 1, the pitch starts increasing and the sail motor gets controlled so that -due to the pitch change- the rotation velocity and the loads developed by wind pressure decrease.
