Abstract

This application describes a one-way infrared communication system to control different devices, manufacturers or suppliers of remote television services. The system uses a specific protocol to the communication with the devices and allows various usage modes of the controller device. The structure for the protocol message format comprises a message initialization field (6) , a data field (7) and a message completion field (8). The data concerning the messages intended to be transmitted to the devices to be controlled are duly encapsulated in the data field (7) of the message, the format of that field varying according the method of using the controller device.
