Abstract
The invention refers to a Method through which, by the exploitation of a suitable Device of Execution of the Method-that may be, for instance, a location detection device (GPS) or a mobile telephony device that embeds a location detection device (GPS) or a portable computer that has access to a GPS unit-the approximate calculation of power or, equivalently, the torque that the engine of a vehicle produces moving straight on a horizontal pavement is achieved. The Method consists of the (through the location detection device) recording, in real time, of the shifts of an accelerating vehicle (initially) and then, of a freely decelerating (coastdown) vehicle and the storage, in a suitable data base, of the instant speeds and accelerations/decelerations. Then, through the execution of specific algorithm calculations, through a programmed computer unit, the power of the vehicle is produced in function of the rotation frequency of the engine.The accelerating power (Px) of the vehicle, when it has an instant Vx speed, is calculated by the general formula Px = Vx * [K * (cx+bx) + z] where cx and bx are the instant accelerations and decelerations of the vehicle, when the vehicle has instant Vx speed, upon the acceleration and the deceleration process, respectively, K coefficient that represents the inertia of the vehicle and z is an empirical, corrective value, that is dependent on the instant speed and the features of the vehicle.
