Abstract
The invention provides a suitable formatting of the piston so that, in cooperation with selected operating elements of the cylinder head the enhancement of the cooling of the piston is achieved by reduction of the emitted nitrogen oxides and simultaneously an increase (under conditions) of the efficiency degree of the engine. More specifically, the piston (1) has a peripheral groove (1A) of adequate depth formed between an internal flank (IX) of the piston (that constitutes part of that sectionof the piston that includes the crown of the piston) and an external flank (IB) of the piston that is adjacent to the walls of the cylinder (4). In the interior of the peripheral groove (1A) a cooling liquid is sprayed through at least one cooling nozzle (7), that absorbs heat from the walls of the piston to which it comes into contact (and especially the two hot flanks-internal and external-of the groove) is vaporized (entirely or partially) and in the form of vapor it is channeled in the combustion chamber (51) increasing the pressure that prevails in its interior.
