Abstract
method and apparatus is proposed for the thermal conditioning of wet ceramic products or wet ceramic masses before drying, enabling very short drying times and resulting in much reduced productioncycles in a ceramics factory. The use of the methodproposed will enable a significant increase in productivity without major restructuring or changes to the factory or the production method. The method consists of multi-level irradiation of the wet ceramic products or masses using large numbers of small localised sources of electromagnetic radiation so that the temeprature of the ceramic products or masses is raised uniformly and quickly to near the boiling point of water before they enter the drier. The apparatus consists of modular tubular units (the number of units is taylored to any axisting ceramics production line) containing and supporting the electromagnetic sources, joined together and placed in series with thw existing production line immediately before the drier. The method proposed will enable the crack-free and rapid drying of high-plsticity wet clay products, improve quality and reduce production time and cost.
