Abstract
The present invention is referred to a method for the conversion of nicotine of cigarette smoke into vitamin B3 and for the retension and the neutralization of its toxic substances, like oxygen free radiacals (superoxide, hydroxyl radicals, hydrogen peroxide, alkoxyl radicals, petoxy radicals etc.), nitrogen free radicals (nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, peroxynitrite), toxic gasses like sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfite, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia etc., dioxins, polychlorinated byphenyls (PCBs), benzopyrenes, with the use of active carbon impregnated with rubidium ascorbate and rubidium phytate. Both ascorbic acid (vit.C) and myo-inositol-exaphosphate (phytic acid, Vit. B complex) are antioxidant substances acting as scavengers of free radicals. In the presence of rubidium in the biological filter, nicotine is converted into vitamin B3 (niacin) due to its N-oxidation. Ascorbic acid is transformed within the biological filter during smoking in ascorbyl-radical that interacts with the hydroquinone radicals and catechol radicals so that to be retained into the biological filter. Rubidium phytate withholds by chelation heavy metals (e.g. cadmium, iron etc.) within the biological filter. In parallel, in the alkaline environment created by rubidium in the biological filter, the slightly acid gasses like hydrogene sulfite, hydrogen cyanide, acidic oxides like sulfur dioxide, are neutralized. Moreover, the neutralization of peroxynitrite inhibits the formation of alcoxyl radical which are responsible for the development of emphysema.
