Abstract
Environmental friendly synthesis of phosphonium salt sulfonated polystyrene was employed for the development of new antimicrobial polymer materials which were incorporated by melt blending into various polymer matrixes such as PE, PP, PET, Nylon 6, and different physical or reactive blends of the above mentiones polymers. The materials were proved to exhibit antimicrobial activity and were further applied in the production of several end products like ophthalmic vials and undercaps with antimicrobial properties.
