Abstract
process for the production of silica aerosols in monolithic form, which are transparent and with very good thermal insulation properties and can be used as insulation material between windoww panes. The process consists of mixing of a silica precccursor in an organic solvent with addition of water and an organic ammonium fluoride salt, N(R)4F, as catalyst. The resultinng colloidal solution is put in molds, either covered with a polymer film, or constructed of a porous material, allowing for facile removal of the gel from the mold. Solvent removal from the gel may be performed with existing techniques for production of the aerosol.
