Abstract
The invention describes a special apparatus that is placed in a Petri dish, or other type of dish, containing a liquid nutrient medium. The apparatus consists of a ring or frame that contains a fine porous mesh. A semi- permeable membrane is placed on the mesh with its lower surface in complete contact with the liquid nutrient medium. The cells of the various biological tissues, spores of fungi and yeasts, bacteria, algae, fungi and various other micro-organisms to be grown, are placed on the upper surface of the membrane where they draw up the diffused constituents of the nutrient liquid through the membrane.
