Mέθοδος παραγωγής μη-ιοντικών (υδρόφοβων) και ιοντικών (υδρόφιλων) πλεγματικών πολυμερών με διασταύρωση γραμμικών ή διακλαδωμένων πολυμερών που έχουν στο μόριό τους αρωματικούς δακτυλίους (π.χ. πολυστυρένιο) με διάφορες τεχνικές και με ένα κατάλληλο διδραστικό μέσο διασταύρωσης και κατά προτίμηση με φορμαλδεϋδη στη μορφή μονομερούς, τριοξάνης, τετροξάνης ή παραφορμαλδεϋδης, ή ακόμα με διάλυμα τριοξειδίου του θείου (π.χ. θειϊκό οξύ ή ατμίζον θειϊκό οξύ).
