2 фиг In a process for producing coin blanks for minting coins, a multiplicity of appropriately disc-shaped or plate-shaped metal cores is heated in order to reduce their hardness to less than about 65 according to the Rockwell 30T hardness scale, and the heated cores are then cooled so that they have the indicated hardness. The cooled cores are then filled into an electrically non-conductive perforated container which is then introduced into an electroplating bath. During a to-and-fro rotation of the container about a horizontal axis, a metallic coating having a layer thickness of at least about 0.01 mm is electrically deposited on the two surfaces of each core, and in about 2 to 4 times this thickness on the peripheral rim of each core. The cores provided with the coating are then taken out of the container.
