Abstract
A process for the preparation of phosphorus containing polyurethanes comprises reacting a linear or branched polyhydroxyl compound, which comprises or consists of one or more triesters of phosphorous acid containing at least two phosphorous atoms in the molecule, with an organic polyisocyanate and if desired a cross-linking agent to produce a mouldable plastic. The triesters of phosphorous acid may be used in admixture with polyesters, polyethers, polythioethers or polyacetals. Cross-linking agents specified are polypropoxylated phosphoric acid, polypropoxylated polyamines and polyamines. The reaction may take place in the presence of blowing agents such as water or trichlorofluoromethane surface-active agents such as siloxane-polyether block copolymers and sodium ricinoleic sulphate, and catalysts such as tertiary amines or organotin compounds to give foamed products or in the presence of solvents to give lacquers. Polyphosphites containing hydroxyl groups are produced by transesterifying triesters of phosphorous acid from simple alcohols with polyhydric alcohols which may be monomeric compounds, polyethers, polyesters or polyacetals. The preparation of polyphosphites by the transesterification of trichloroethyl phosphite with a mixture of pentaerythritol and (A1) diethylene glycol, (A2 and A3) triethylene glycol, (A4) polypropylene glycol or (A7) 1,6-hexanediol; (A5) a mixture of diethylene glycol and the reaction product of cane sugar, formalin and diethylene glycol; (A6) the reaction product of cane sugar and triethylene glycol; (11 and 12) triethylene glycol; or (13) a mixture of triethylene glycol and glycerol-1 pentachlorophenyl ether.
