Abstract
Anthraquinone water-insoluble dyes of the general formula <FORM:0998858/C4-C5/1> in which R and R1 represent hydrogen atoms, lower alkyl or acyl radicals, Y is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aryl radical and the benzene nucleus W may be further substituted except by halogen, nitro, or amino radicals, the molecule is devoid of carboxylic and sulphonic acid groups, and n has the values 1-3, are prepared by acylation of a compound of formula <FORM:0998858/C4-C5/2> with an acid derivative of formula Y.COOH, W, Y and n having the meanings as above. The reaction is preferably carried out in a basic solvent, e.g. pyridine at 0-100 DEG C., the product being isolated by addition of water or other non-solvent. An excess of acylating agents may be used and if the reaction is not done in a basic solvent N-acylation may take place, several examples where N-acylation occurs are provided. As acylating agents acetyl chloride, benzoyl chloride, acetic and benzoic anhydrides are specifically referred to, others are specified, many examples of substituent values for Y are given. Mixed derivatives of the dyes are also prepared.ALSO:The invention conprises a process for dyeing and printing synthetic fibres particularly cellulose acetate and triacetate fibres, also polyamides, polyesters and polyacrylic fibres in which single dyes or mixtures of disperse dyes having the general formula <FORM:0998858/D1-D2/1> in which R and R1 are hydrogen, lower alkyl, or acyl radicals, the benzene ring X may carry substituents except halogen, nitro and amino groups, Z is hydrogen, or a substituted or unsubstituted lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aryl radical, the molecule being devoid of carboxylic and sulphonic acid groups, are used. The term "lower" indicates less than 8 carbon atoms. Many examples of X, 2 and R and R1 are given. Conventional methods and assistants for dyeing and printing are given.
