Abstract

997,690. Wheel tyres. PNEUMATIQUES, CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE ET PLASTIQUES KLEBER COLOMBES. April 30, 1962 [April 28, 1961], No. 16409/62. Heading B7C. A tyre or tyre outer cover has a detachable tread 8 with an inextensible band 7 fitted in an undercut recess 9 therein and forming a tread reinforcement, the band being made separately from the tread 8 and carcass 1, and introduced into the tread after moulding and vulcanization of the latter during assembly of the tyre or outer cover. The tread and band may be bonded together by an adhesive before being fitted on to the carcass 1, the inextensible band then holding the tread firmly in a seating defined in the carcass by shoulders 5, 6. The detachable tread 8 may be further reinforced by layers of parallel cord fabric 16 disposed at 90 degrees to the midplane adjacent the recess 9, Fig. 6, or by circumferentially disposed parallel cords. The inextensible band 7 may be made of a polyamide such as nylon, or compromise layers of rubber-encased steel or of parallel metal cord fabric.
