Abstract

The invention comprises 17b -acyloxy-4,5-seco - estr - 9(11) - ene derivatives of the formula <FORM:0997480/C2/1> wherein R represents a cyclic ketal residue, or the oxygen atom =O of a ketone group; Ac represents an acyl group being the residue of a carboxylic acid acid containing 1-18 carbon atoms and processes for the preparation thereof wherein a 3-ketal of a 17b -acyloxy-4,5 - seco - estr - 9(10) - ene - 3,5 - dione is subjected to the action of an allylating agent to obtain a 3-ketal of a 17b -acyloxy-10b -allyl 4,5 - seco - estr - 9(11) - ene - 3,5 - dione, which is reduced to a corresponding 10b -n-propyl compound and deketalized to obtain a 17b -acyloxy - 10b - n - propyl - 4,5 - seco - estr-9(11) - ene - 3,5 - dione. Allylation may be effected with allyl bromide and reduction by hydrogenation in the presence of palladium black. Specifications 914,738 also is referred to.
