Abstract

Polyoxymethylene is acylated with a compound having in its molecule at least one nitrogen atom having attached thereto at least two carboxylic acyl groups or one carboxylic acyl and at least one thiocarbonyl group. The acylating agent may have the formula <FORM:0997337/C3/1> where X is a carbonyl or thiocarbonyl, R is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkenyl or heterocyclic radical which may be substituted or not, R1 is R or alkoxy carbalkoxy, substituted amino or substituted carbamoyl, R2 is R, or hydrogen, carboxylic acyl or substituted amino and R1 and R2 may together form a heterocyclic ring with the nitrogen atom and X. Numerous examples are given including diacetamide, dibenzanilide, N-acetyl-caprolactam, N-acetylurethan, N-acetylisatin, tetra-acetyl-hydrazine and N-acetylthiohydantoin. The usual catalysts may be present.
