Abstract

Dipyridyls are produced by the pyrolysis of pyridine under elevated pressure. Preferably the process is carried out at a temperature of 550-700 DEG C. at a pressure from 100 to 300 atmospheres. The product is mainly 2,21- dipyridyl with some 4,41- and some 2,41- dipyridyl.
