A telecommunication headset is supported in use by pads 1, 2 (Fig. 2) attached to a springy headband 5 which presses the pads 1, 2 against the sides of the user's head with sufficient force to prevent the pads 1, 2 from slipping under the weight of the headset. At least one of the pads carries a telephone receiver 9 and a sound tube 12 for conveying sound from the receiver 9 to the user's car. Preferably two receivers 9 are used, one in each pad 1, 2, together with two tubes 12 and two acoustic shells 13, each shell 13 being placed close to an ear for transmitting sound into the ear. The shells 13 may have an external covering or rim of soft plastics material for attenuating external noise. The shells 13 may be replaced by earplugs. Each tube 12 is attached to a socket 11 by a universal joint comprising a pierced ball 14. In use the springy headband 5 passes round the back of the head. It comprises two insulated wires laid side by side in a flexible plastics sheath 6. The wires connect the receivers 9 in parallel. A layer of soft material is fixed to the slightly concave bottom of each pad 1, 2 for comfort and to increase frictional adhesion to the wearer's head. An additional headband passes over the top of the head and comprises flexible plastics tubing 17. Its two ends are telescoped over rods 18 and the length of the additional headband can be adjusted simply by pushing more or less of the tubing 17 over the rods 18. A boom 22 carrying a microphone 21 is attached to pad 2 by a clutch device so that the boom 22 may be swung up and down horizontally. External connections are made by a cable 16.
