Abstract

995,102. Telephone dials. ASSOCIATED AUTOMATION Ltd., GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., A. YOUNG, and J. H. LEWORTHY. Jan. 15, 1964 [Oct. 22, 1962], No. 39954/62. Heading H4K. In a dial preferably of the kind described in Specification 518,721, auxiliary springs 6 which are normally closed are controlled by cams 14, 15 loose on the shaft 2 of the finger plate 3 in such a way that they open when the digit 0 is dialled provided it does not follow a digit other than 0. When 0 is dialled, an arm 26 on the shaft 2 rotates sufficiently to engage a pin 25 on the cam 14 and move it off-normal, in which position it remains until the arm 26 again strikes the pin 25 at the end of the return movement. A cam follower 27 allows the springs 6 to open. The cam 15 has two off-normal positions to which it is moved by successive settings of the finger plate 3 through a cranked lever 34 and pawl 32, there being a retaining detent 30. If the first digit dialled is 0, however, the movement of the cam 14 withdraws the detent 30 and allows the cam 15 to return to normal. But if the digit 0 follows another digit, the cam 15 goes to the second off-normal position, and it is no longer released by the cam 14. In this position it prevents the control of the cam follower 17 by the cam 14. A further cam 16 has a projection 40 coupled to the cradle switch so that the cam moves through a small angle when the handset is removed or replaced, and thus releases both the pawl 32 and detent 30, allowing the cam 15 to restore. By giving the cam 14 a second pin it may be arranged to control the springs 6 when either 9 and 0 is dialled. The circuit shown in Fig. 6 is intended for a system in which the first digit 0 indicates a trunk call, while the number 000 is used for emergency calls. When O is dialled as the first digit springs 6 open as described above and relay A energizes. On the return of springs 6 the impulse springs 1 are short-circuited unless 0 is again dialled or unless contacts 41 forming part of a keyoperated lock are opened.
