Abstract
994,966. Measuring electrically. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 15, 1962 [Dec. 29, 1960], No. 44606/60. Heading G1N. Apparatus for determining the position of a movable body consists of a bi-stable circuit triggered to one state by constant phase pulses and to the other state by pulses whose phase is controlled in accordance with the position of the body, means for applying pulses corresponding to the position of the variable edge of the square wave produced by the bi-stable circuit to a gating circuit, and means for opening (or closing) the gate for time periods whose phase limits correspond to the specified limits of travel of the movable body so that the variable phase pulses are passed (or blocked) if the body is within the specified limits. Pulses passed by the gate are applied to indicating and/or control devices. The output from the gate preferably triggers a monostable circuit giving a substantially continuous output so long as pulses are passed by the gate. The output may be applied to a lamp or a relay. Alternatively a bi-stable circuit, reset by slightly advanced pulses from the variable phase signal source may be used in the output circuit. In another modification the gate connects the output from the first bi-stable circuit to a bypass circuit when the body is made (or outside) the limits. Automatic control action may be provided.
