b - isonicotinyl - hydrazyl - methyl - tetracycline, b - isonicotinyl - hydrazyl - methyloxytetracycline, b - isonicohnyl - hydrazylmethyl - chlortetracycline and b - isonicotinylhydrazyl - methyl - demethyl tetracycline and physiologically compatible acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reacting tetracycline, oxytetracycline, chlortetracycline or demethyl tetracycline respectively or an acid addition salt thereof with isoniazide in the presence of formaldehyde or a compound yielding formaldehyde in situ.
