Abstract

The invention comprises 6-azauridines of the general formula <FORM:0993759/C2/1> wherein R represents a carboxylic acyl radical, and the preparation thereof by treating 6-azauridine with a triarylmethyl halide, for example in the presence of an organic tertiary base, to form a 51-O-triarylmethyl-6-azauridine, acylating this compound, for example with a carboxylic acid, a carboxylic acid halide in an organic base, or a ketene, to form a 21,31-di-O -acyl - 51 - O - triarylmethyl - 6 - azuridine, and splitting off the triarylmethyl group from the latter compound, for example by the action of an acid or a cationic exchange resin or by hydrogenation. The triarylmethyl group may be a trityl or mono-, di- or tri-p-methoxy trityl group.
