Abstract
992,419. Rotary piston engines. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. March 1, 1962 [March 25, 1961], No. 8077/62. Heading F1F. A rotary piston engine rotor carried on a crankshaft within a stator having one less lobe than the rotor is formed with an epicyclic outer contour and consists of a separate annular outer part and hub assembly in which the hub in turn is made of a plurality of parts bolted or otherwise connected together. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the rotor comprises an outer part 10 having an inwardly directed annular flange 17 formed with a plurality of bolt holes 18, 19 and a two-part hub 20 whose two parts 21, 22 are joined together by bolts 23. The holes 18 receive bolts 18<SP>1</SP> connecting the part 10 to the hub and the holes 19 bolts 19<SP>1</SP> connecting gear wheels 8, 9 to the hub. The gear wheels 8, 9 mesh with gear rings 6, 7 on the stator to guide the rotor with respect to the stator. Inlet and outlet bores 31, 32 in a one-piece crank-shaft communicate through hub grooves 34, 35 and radial ducts 13, 14 with peripheral ducts 11, 12 in the part 10 to circulate cooling oil. The flange 17 and rotor part 10 are hollowed out to reduce weight. In another embodiment a twolobe rotor co-operates with a three-lobe stator with sealing strips provided at the intersection points of the stator lobes.
