Abstract
991,147. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. H. KALB. Sept. 4,1962 [Sept. 7, 1961; July 26, 1962], No. 33794/62. Heading G3P. A hydraulic speed-governor for an engine comprises a hollow rotor 1, Fig. 1, the pressure in the bore 15 of which is controlled by a radially displaceable ball valve 5, or a diaphragm, and acts to position a spring-loaded servo-cylinder 26 operating, e.g. the fuel valve of the engine. Fluid under pressure, maintained constant by a spill valve 22, is fed through a restriction 24 to the bore 15 and through a restriction 23 to a loading chamber 4 for the ball vale. When the centrifugal force on the ball valve overcomes the loading in chamber 4, which is adjustable by a valve 8, the ball valve allows escape of fluid from the bore 15 to a radial outlet 6. The consequent change of pressure in the bore 15 may influence the loading pressure in the chamber 4 through an adjustable valve 25 which may be operatively interconnected with the valve 8. A member 18 pivoted at 19 adjusts an outlet 17 from the bore 15 in response to acceleration or deceleration. Instead of the ball valve a piston with a conical seat, or several pistons operating in sequence, may be employed. The conical seats may be grooved in a manner to cause escaping fluid to impart rotation to the pistons. Fig. 5 shows a rotor 101 with such a piston 105, an acceleration and deceleration member 118, and a remote servomotor 134 actuating the fuel valve 136. The loading pressure for the piston 105 is derived from a chamber 142 of a pressure reducing valve connected to a pressure supply conduit 121 which feeds the hollow rotor and the servomotor through a restriction 152. Pressure changes in the conduit 160 leading to the servomotor are communicated through an adjustable restriction 153 to a chamber 141 where they modify, after a time delay determined by a capacity 159, the pressure supplied by the pressure reducing valve to the piston 105. The datum speed may be modified , within an upper limit set by a handwheel-adjusted spring 146, by a remote controller 138 which varies the pressure applied to a piston 149.
