Abstract
990,571. Electrical correspondence controls. TOWNSON & MERCER Ltd. July 2,1962 [April 6,1961],No. 12377/61. Heading G3R. An apparatus for controlling the temperature of a fluid comprises a bridge circuit in which two elements are thermosensitive resistors 1,2 so connected that their effect on bridge balance with a change in temperature is additive. The resistances 1, 2, may be of platinum or other pure metal wire, or high negative temperature coefficient semi-conductors. The bridge is adjusted by means of ganged potentiometers 5,6, so as to be approximately balanced at a desired fluid temperature and fine balance at this temperature, which may be indicated by a fluid immersed thermometer, is achieved by coarse and fine potentiometers 3,4 respectively. The ganged potentiometer control may be calibrated in degrees of temperature. The bridge output is amplified and used to switch a heater on and off.
