Abstract

989,914. Mowers. RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFRIES Ltd. April 3, 1964 [April 3, 1963], No. 13257/63. Heading A1F. A gang mower comprises a chassis 1 mounted on front wheels 65 and rear wheels 51 and supporting helically bladed cutter reels 27 and a driving motor 47 for effecting movement of the chassis and rotating the reels, two forward cutter reels being arranged in line on opposite sides of the chassis and forwardly of the front wheels and a rear unit being arranged parallel and central with respect to the forward units and rearwardly of the front wheels. Each forward unit is supported from a drop link 17 pivotally mounted on a pivoted support arm 15 which is spring biassed upwardly so that the units move freely over uneven ground, the units 27 being mounted on skids 23 located below the bottom blade 25. The rear cutting unit 67 is trailed from hitch points 69, a tension spring 71 relieving pressure of the unit on the ground. Means are provided for adjusting the height of cut of the units and for raising the units to an inoperative transport position. Two cutter .units carried on a spring loaded support arm may be arranged in line with the rear unit and driven from the drive shaft of the rear unit.
