Abstract

989, 705. Modifying acoustic properties of rooms. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. June 7, 1963 [June 8, 1962], No. 22702/63. Heading G5X. [Also in Division H4] A radio or acoustic wave absorber comprises layers of attenuating material concatenated at right angles to form a honeycomb structure by location between an assembly of trough-shaped support elements which occupy the cell spaces in the completed absorber. Support elements as depicted in Fig. 1 or Fig. 3 may be employed; in Fig. 3 each element has a beading 10 and a recess 11 whereby the elements may be readily interlocked Fig. 2. Attenuating plates 7 may be separate from, or integrally formed on, the elements 6; or the attenuating layers may be of cheese cloth lined with resistive material and interleaved between pairs of elements 6. The side walls of elements 6 may be such as to attenuate both radio and acoustic waves. The elements may be of foamed polystyrol or foamed phenol-resin.
