Abstract

5a - Bromo - 6b - hydroxy - steroids are prepared by reacting D 5-steroids with hypobromous acid or agents yielding it in an aliphatic ether R1-O-R2, wherein R1 and R2 each represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of 1 to 6 carbon atoms. In examples the process is applied to diesters of D 5-3b ,17b -dihydroxyandrostene; D 5 - 3b - acetoxy - 17 - ketoandrostene; and D 5 - 3b - acetoxy - 20 - ketopregnene.
