Abstract

An impregnating varnish for the coils of electrical machines comprises a copolymer of butadiene with styrene, vinyl toluene, diallyl phthalate or triallyl cyanurate mixed with urea resin, or melamine resin or both. The mixture preferably comprises 30 to 80% copolymer and 70 to 20% resin. Solvents such as high boiling point hydrocarbons, e.g. dipentene and small quantities of methylene amine may also be present.
