Abstract

988,211. Levelling staves. M. J. MITCHLEY. Oct.21, 1963 [Nov.20, 1962], No. 41509/63. Heading G1F. A levelling staff is provided with the usual graduations on one face of the staff and further graduations on a length of movable tape 16 supported on an opposite face of the staff, the further graduations increasing downwardly from the top. The staff may be made from an extended section of an aluminium alloy and may be in sections hinged together or connected by tongue and socket joints as shown. The tape which may be of suitably enamelled metal is held in a spool 18 and is fed in from the bottom to slide in grooves (not shown) up the full length of the staff, its end being wound round a roller 21. The graduation marks may be luminous for use in mines.
