Abstract

988,110. Dishwashing machines. J. LYONS & CO. Ltd. March 25. 1964 [March 29, 19631, No. 12520/63. Heading A4F. [Also in Division B8] Culinary and like articles are cleaned by being subjected to sprays of liquid containing a detergent and sterilising agent and then to a hot liquid at a temperature below that needed without the agent to achieve sterilisation. Articles to be washed are fed by conveyer 11 through compartments 10a, 10b, 10c in turn in which they are sprayed from nozzles 20, 21, 22; undergoing high pressure spraying in compartment 10a, spraying with a liquid containing a detergent and bleach sterilising agent in compartment 10b at 130‹F. and a final hot rinse at 135‹F. in compartment 10c. Hot water supplied to spray 22 flows into tank 25 where it mixes with detergent from reservoir 27 and bleach from reservoir 28 automatically dispensed by metering and mixing device 30, the liquid kept at the correct temperature by heater 34 is fed by pump 26 to sprays 21, to then fall back into tank 25, the overflow passing via conduit 35 to tank 23 whence it is fed by pump 24 to sprays 20 to effect a preliminary wash. Surplus liquid is removed through overflow 36. The hot water supply valve and the dispensing device 30 are both coupled to operate only when the conveyer 11 is in motion. The metering and mixing device is shown in greater detail in Fig. 2. Bleach and detergent solutions stored in air-tight containers 41, 42 pass to reservoirs 48, 49 the liquid levels in the reservoirs being kept constant by a bird fountain mechanism by means of open ended pipes 51, 52 from which reservoirs they are displaced through outlet pipes 62, 63 by pistons 54, 55 driven by a constant speed electric motor 53 through a gearing and link mechanism 56-61. The solutions may be replenished through caps 44, 45 after closing outlet pipes 46-47 by pressure from a pivoted lever 64 brought to bear by a cranked hand lever 66.
