Abstract

A gasoline, suitable for use in I.C. engines in which the fuel is injected in liquid form directly into the combustion chambers, has added thereto 0.02-0.10 wt. per cent of a C12- 18 straight chain saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid, e.g. lauric, palmitic, or stearic acid. The gasoline may also contain an octane-number improver, e.g. TEL, tetramethyl lead, or iron carbonyl.
