987, 737. Educational appliances. J. J. W. MARCUSSON. March 9, 1964 [March 14, 1963], No. 10067/63. Heading G5G. An appliance for teaching reading comprises a plurality of pieces of varying shapes such as shown in Figs. 1a. . . 1e each provided with sockets 10 and 11 and projections 12 so that the pieces may be assembled to form an outline of a word e.g. father, Fig. 2 the outline being then used to construct the word by superimposing the appropriate letters provided with appropriate projections on to the outline Fig. 4. The letters a and r are distinguished from the letters such as e, by apex pieces 20, 21 and curved piece 18, respectively. The root of the word e.g. fa is distinguished from the common syllable ther by construction of the outline of the word in different contours, shown cross-hatched in Fig. 4. In forming the outline the sockets 10, 11 and projections 12 may be dispensed with and the pieces joined together by adhesive, pins or magnetically.
