Wire bookbinding elements 10 initially comprising open rings 12 connected by straight portions 13 (see left-hand side of Fig. 1) are arranged on a plurality of parallel strips of flexible material 18, said strips being straddled by the prongs of the elements so that the latter are frictionally held thereon and wound into the form of a roll with the elements lying parallel to the axis of the roll. The convolutions of the roll are interleaved with paper to prevent said elements interfering with each other when the roll is unwound.
