Apparatus for collecting eggs and recording egg production in a hen house having tiers of cages I-IV comprises for each tier a roller 14 which sweeps the eggs over the edges 12 of the cages on to a sloping guide 15 above which is located a plate 17 displaced by the eggs to operate a switch 18 controlling a stamping mechanism adapted to record on paper the presence of an egg. The paper is provided with a division corresponding to each cage, the appropriate column of divisions being brought into alignment with the stamping mechanism by means of a projection 19 fixed to the hen house and aligned with a column of cages, the projection 19 actuating switch 20 which controls movement of the paper. As described the hen house 11 revolves and the stand supporting the rollers 14 is fixed. The presence of an egg may also be detected by a photoelectric tube and the egg transferred from the nest to the collecting receptacle 16 by compressed air. A screw or belt conveyer may be used to transfer eggs from the receptacles 16 to a common collecting vessel. The hen house 11 may also be stationary and the egg detecting and transferring means arranged to rotate around the house.
