Abstract
986,444. Operating clutches. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. Jan. 14, 1963 [Jan. 12, 1962], No. 1576/63. Heading F2L. A motor-vehicle friction clutch is disengaged by a pin 8 thrust rightwards by the pressure on a plate 2 of balls 3 cammed between the plate 2 and a stationary plate 1, when the plate 2 is turned by a Bowden cable or linkage (Fig. 3, not shown), the balls 3 riding up inclined, raised, or sunken recesses 6 on at least one of the plates 2, 1. As shown, three balls 3 are seated in cupshaped depressions in the plate 1 fast with a housing 9 and coact with inclined recesses in the movable plate 2. In Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the ball seating depressions are each formed by two parallel raised ribs and in Fig. 6 (not shown) they are formed as channels. The plate 1 may be turned for clutch adjustment.
